“Do I have what it takes?” (Yes, you do!)
Every new project requires source materials of some kind. In general, the more that the provided set of source is complete and specific, the less effort it takes to establish a Scope of Work and a written estimate or proposal.
The following are frequently submitted as source materials:
- Digital Photos
- Elevations
- Floor plans
- Landscape plan
- Roof plan
- Satellite pictures (google or other)
- Site plan
Also to be specified:
- Environmental treatment
- Lifestyle elements
- Materials and colors
Any of these things might be required for a particular project, but no project requires them all. As always, each client requests only the support they need in each case.
For example, a request for a watercolor rendering of a single family home might come with a specific landscape plan. This will result in the illustration of the specified trees and plantings indicated in the source. If the builder holds to this plan, then the rendering will be a very thorough prediction of the appearance of the finished project. However, in some cases a landscape plan is not available and we will recommend a landscape layout to accompany the rendered building.
Every project requires specified materials and colors, unless we are asked to recommend a facade treatment based on provided elevations. For both environmental treatment and lifestyle elements, the request can be from none at all to quite detailed. With environmental treatment, the building could be a silhouette with no landscape or other environment at all – or it could have very detailed and specific requirements for topography and plantings – or anywhere in between. Lifestyle elements include cars in the street or parked, pedestrians, boats or other if there are water features – whatever the client requires.
Also see the post about Concept Renderings for other options when there are no available plans to use as source.
